Descrizione

La lunghezza massima registrata del guscio è di 121 mm o fino a 130 mm. Come altre specie dello stesso genere, ha un guscio robusto, piuttosto pesante e solido. La spirale del corpo è ornata dorsalmente da caratteristiche creste a spirale grossolane. L'espansione posteriore del labbro esterno svasato è sempre inferiore alla guglia. Il colore è brunastro, con diverse macchie bianche disperse. Sia le labbra interne che quelle esterne sono crema o bianche. Come altre specie del genere Strombus è un erbivoro .

Diffusione

Questa specie è distribuita nel Mar dei Caraibi, nel Golfo del Messico e nelle Piccole Antille. Vive vicino a praterie di fanerogame, di solito in acque poco profonde. La profondità minima registrata è -0,3 m; la profondità massima registrata è di -55 m.
